Forget trying to reason with the arrogant, demanding, cold and heartless city politicians and officials. They are in this for themselves, and will not stop until they own everyone in the county.Their minds - such as they are- are made up and no amount of reason or logic will deter them from their chosen path of mutual destruction. 
NOW WE BEGIN THE BOYCOTT! WE WILL NOT BOYCOTT ANY BUSINESS THAT CONTRIBUTES TO OUR CAUSE, BUT FEW HAVE BECAUSE THEY FEAR THE CITY POLITICIANS AND THEIR RETRUBUTION MORE THAN THEY FREAR OUR BOYCOTT. TYOR IS BUILDING A FOOD LION, AND THEY HAVE RESTURANTS AND PHARMACY AND WILL SOON HAVE MORE BUSINESSES.
IT IS TIME TO STAND UP, PEOPLE! EVERYTIME YOU ROOL OVER FOR A TYRANT YOU FIND YOURSELF IN A MUCH WORSE POSITION TO EVER STAND UP AGAIN. NOW IS THE TIME. NEVER BUY A SINGLE THING IN LEXINGTON AGAIN. THEY MAY STEAL OUR MONEY AND PROPERTY RIGHTS, BUT ONLY WE CAN LET THEM STEAL OUR DIGNITY. IT IS TIME TO MAKE THEM PAY FOR THIE ARROGANCE.

THE ONLY THING MORE REDUNDANT THAN TYRRANY IS THE LIES THOES IN LEXINGTON KEEP TELLING TO DEFEND THEIR ANNEXATION PLANS.

(1) The sewer to West Davidson HS was PAID FOR AND INSTALLED and continues to be paid for by the County - it was and never will be “free” as Walser, Beck, and the ass. city manager claim often and publicly!

(2) WE WANT NOTHING, WE OWE LEXINGTON NOTHING, AND THE ONLY THING WE WILL EVER GET FROM LEXINGTON IS DOUBLE TAXES AND INCOMPETENT DICTATORSHIP!!!

   Lexington has a terrible and continuing policy of Forcibly Annexing neighborhoods – an unconstitutional, undemocratic practice of extending its borders to encompass nearby neighborhoods without allowing the people to vote, giving the annexed neighborhoods nothing in return, and  doubling and tripling their taxes. High taxes, ever-increasing “service” rates, gang activity, drugs, litter and crime (and that is just at City Hall) make Lexington a most miserable place to live. The Lexington officials claim they need to annex to control growth and to gain tax revenue, yet they are unable to keep their own City clean, attractive or functioning properly. Half of the youth in High School never graduate, and fewer people own their own homes. Yet all the local misleaders can devise for the town’s future is to raise taxes.  Our “Representative” in Raleigh- Hugh Holliman-is the one and only Davidson County Representative standing in the way of introducing a local bill (or “act”) that would allow those facing forced annexation to vote on the issue. He has stated that he believes that we should be “allowed to vote”, so why does he not act to allow us to vote? He has not helped us with the annexation problem at all. Write him at Hughh@ncleg.net and let him know that, if annexations continue, we will vote him out of office. There is another Candidate this next election who is against forced annexations and imminent domain abuses. ANNEXATION WILL COST 4 - 5 MILLION OF YOUR DOLLARS! THIS IS BORROWED MONEY, YOUR DEBT, WITH A “POSSIBLE” PAYBACK IN 14-15 YEARS!·    **WHAT IS FORCED ANNEXATION? Forced Annexation is the process in which a township - such as Lexington - FORCES nearby neighborhoods to pay taxes to the town by extending its’ existing borders to encompass desired areas.DO WE GET TO VOTE? Not in North Carolina, one of only four states that allow this undemocratic form of taxation without representation.WHO IS IN DANGER? Everyone who lives anywhere near a town. Eventually, your land will be annexed unless we all work together to end it! If you are not annexed now, you will be in the future. As little as 14% border (skips roads and waterways) allows further annexations. HOW MUCH WILL MY TAXES INCREASE? Your taxes could easily double. The City of Lexington’s tax rate is .545 per $100 value, minus the Fire Dept. tax ( which is between .04 - .11 per $100). This is in addition to current County tax! This means your property taxes (house, land, and vehicles) will increase a minimum of $435 (North and South Lexington Fire Districts) to $505 (Reeds Fire District) per $1000 value. The City also has the option to contract out your current volunteer fire department, so you are not receiving an additional benefit. This is the most probable method.WHAT ABOUT SEWER? YOU have to pay $1,572 to connect to City sewer (cost subject to increase), PLUS hire your own plumber to hook-up. Cost will be more if a home decides not to connect at time of annexation. The homeowner is responsible for all yard repairs, and imminent domain laws will be used to take property needed to run the trunk lines. Average homeowner will pay an estimated $7,000 - $10,000 for hook - ups, plus an additional $35/ month for sewer service. If you elect not to hook on to the City sewer (and keep your septic system), the City may require each home to pay a monthly acess fee - even though you are not using their services. WHAT WILL I GET IN RETURN? (1) Trash pick-up at a current rate of $7.50?month. (Not an optional service. You must pay this monthly fee.) (2) Sewer. (You pay tap fee and a monthly sewer fee). (3) Recycling boxes if requested. (The County has recycling centers). (4) Lower housing value. The City claims otherwise, but housing values drop with just the threat of annexations. We know from experience. (5) CRIME. CITY CRIME RATES ARE MUCH HIGHER. DO WE GET TO VOTE IN THE CITY ELECTIONS? Only after you are annexed, which is too late, and will be years. WE, by law, are forbidden to vote in the City elections. This is taxation without representation, and hence, the term forced annexations.In addition, those annexed begin paying taxes immediately, although the City has 7-10 years to complete the installation of sewer lines. WHAT CAN WE DO TO PROTECT OUR PROPERTY? Sign our petition. Visit the websites linked to this one. In Davidson County, vote Republican (unfortunately, only Republicans are introducing Bills for annexation reform and Democrats are supporting Forced Annexation. Remember, if Hugh Holliman and Joe Hackney wanted forced annexation to end, it would end within a month). Call and write the City and State officials listed in “what we can do together”. . The idea of “planning” in Lexington is to do whatever the already wealthy developers want the City to do, and as a result the Town of Lexington has one of the poorest ecological conditions in the state, most vexing traffic chaos, and disgruntled, angry citizens who are the last consideration (if considered at all) in the towns’ decision making.                                 

       Forced annexations and the town’s lack of consideration for surrounding homeowners when facilitating the sporatic and chaotic area development has lead to a “gold rush” approach toward development, crippling the possible charm and thoughtful maturity that could otherwise be possible. With over sixty abandoned buildings and building sites inside the city limits, the City Planning and Council continue to annex more County land at the request of developers and in disregard of the neighboring residents. Ignoring the needful areas within their own borders, they capture new land in an almost reckless and salivating haste. The City buys land for itself, losing tax revenue while putting it’s taxpayers deeper into debt and continues to fall millions of dollars into debt by borrowing money to annex even more areas that do not want to be annexed.  It is time the City residents began to demand, finally, that their tax dollars actually be spent in their own neighborhoods….

Lexington has a tax – funded golf course that has lost over $1.3 million tax dollars in the past 3 years, and continues to lose over $200,000 per year.  (Figures from the John Locke Foundation, see link). These figures have been disputed publicly by the City Manager, but were taken from the City of Lexington’s own Financial Reports. By anyone’s math, it is hundreds of thousands of dollars every year. If sold, the city would be free of this debt and have tax revenue as well, yet no serious effort to sell the course has been made. Many of the City Councilmen and Mayor live on this golf course, a tax - funded 117 acre City -owned vanity showcase that a minority  utilizes yet the majority pays for. Instead of building the Dreadlox (re-named Westview)development strip mall on this land and gaining tax revenue on a losing enterprise, the City annexed land for it’s building  across the street from long-established, quiet family  neighborhoods-against the overwhelming objections of the affected nearby residents. Also ignored were the over sixty abandoned buildings and sites avaliable within the City limits. It is doubtful that the 300 apartments building planned could have been built without the Ctiy sewer. (Dispatch, Feb.20,07).  Because EVERY taxpayer-County and City- pays for this tax waste of a golf course, we should DEMAND that the golf course be sold or turned into a park that we can ALL enjoy, not just the Lexington elite.*****This is OUR money, friends. The Politicians are supposed to work for US, not the other way around.  We should not have to pay for a Golf Course so that the Mayor and City Council can have a nice place to live and play. Wake up, Lexington.

We hope that this website will prevent any others from making the same mistake that we did in moving anywhere near the town of Lexington. Lexington is a predatory, parasitic town with no regard for the people who live in or around the town. The Town leaders waste excessive amounts of tax dollars while pursuing a practice of Forcefully Annexing surrounding neighborhoods to pay for their arrogantly imperial rule and lack of foresight. The town spreads out, leaving the wreckage of past mistakes like unbandaged wounds. Entire neighborhoods are ignored, littered and unsafe. The people have given up on attending town meetings because, as is common knowledge, the people of Lexington and Davidson County have no voice or vote on any issue. The town is run as a dictatorship, with the same few people making the decisions and dominating the political machine. There is no freedom, no Constitutional Government, no respect for citizens. It is filled with dilapidated buildings and litter that the town refuses to clean up, the crime and taxes are high and the rates for services continue to rise.  Lexington is no place to raise a family, buy a home or start a business. There is NO leadership, NO budgeting, and the people here have NO choice in how the City is run because there is NO vote on any issue.  The only areas within the City limits that receive prompt, effective service in any way are the areas where the Town Councilmen and political supporters live.  Forced annexation is a policy akin to trashing your own backyard, refusing to clean it up and then taking your neighbors yard that he has kept clean….and then makling him pay for the new fence that you put up!

Our City is run so that the wishes, desires, request and concerns of citizens are inconsequential to the Town Council and planners. They truly believe that they are the only ones who matter, and that their opinions are the only ones that count. Citizens are there to work for them, and they are there to  tell citizens how to live. It may sound archaic to the “progressive” elitist, but it was intended to be the other way around….
